Learn to code with this electronically upgraded, super hackable, fidget spinner. Perfect for S.T.E.M. learning projects the Lightino uses an Arduino Pro Micro microcontroller with 8 RGB LEDs and an optical rotation sensor allowing you to program different display features and POV (persistence of vision) effects.

The optical sensor used in the Lightino V3 is the QRE1113. This IR sensor is used for analog output which will vary depending on the amount of IR light reflected back to the sensor. The QRE1113 IR reflectance sensor is composed of two parts: an IR emitting LED and an IR sensitive phototransistor. When the light from the LED is reflected back onto the phototransistor, the output will begin to go lower.

The Lightino STEM fidget spinner comes with 8 RGB LEDs on the board. These can be programmed to produce many different effects in millions of colours.

Please note: This does not include the 3D printed cap used in the video.

Good but

I bought this for my grandson to encourage him to look at programming. It works well given the examples supplied on the Lightino site. We tried the text example which uses the IR sensor to identify the start of a rotation, but I had to move my finger so close to make it work it rubbed on the spinner and slowed it down much quicker. In the lessons also provided they talk about a bearing cap which has a protruding section to operate the IR sensor. The idea looked good but they only supplied a file to produce the part on a 3d printer. I don’t have a 3d printer so I sent a message to Lightino but all they could say was it was aimed at makers and that “Most of the makers have their own 3d printer or can easily reach one.” I would have given this 5 stars but I was not happy with the support.

Great idea

Worked well a few times then the cpu was bricked. Cut off the CPU and replaced with STM32k8 now it works a treat.
