Recycling Commitment

At Cool Components, we are all very passionate when it comes to recycling and being as eco-friendly as possible that includes electronics and the packaging we use.

After we have booked in stock from any of our suppliers, we also inspect the packaging that it is delivered in. If the boxes are in good condition, we ensure that they are repacked and reused when we dispatch an order. If we receive stock padded with bubble wrap, we check to make sure that it is usable and we reuse it when sending batteries or delicate items. If we receive stock padded with paper, we check to make sure that it is useable and we will reuse it to pad out boxes we send for larger orders.

Packaging

Normal Packaging

We use padded envelopes that are rated by the Forrest Stewardship Council as FSC Mixed, this means that the paper element of the envelopes come from FSC-certified forests, recycled material, or controlled wood.

While the bubblewrap and glue are unfortunately not recyclable in all areas, we do encourage our customers to:

  1. Reuse the envelope if possible
  2. Separate the outer paper from the envelope as this can be recycled.
  3. Check if your local council accepts bubblewrap in your recycling collections, if not it is accepted you can find recycling bins which do accept it outside of local supermarkets, they will also accept other items such as carrier bags.

For more information and to find your nearest recycling point that will accept bubble wrap, please visit the RecycleNow website using this link: https://www.recyclenow.com/what-to-do-with/plastic-film

Larger Orders

For larger orders that cannot be sent using envelopes, we use a cardboard box for delivery, while we do try to reuse as many of the cardboard boxes we receive our deliveries in as possible, there are at times we have to use new boxes. All boxes we use are recyclable in your local collections or at any recycling centre that accepts cardboard.

If a box needs to be padded to ensure that the contents of an order are kept safe, we reuse the padding paper which our stock was packaged with, all of the padding paper that we reuse is fully recyclable and accepted by the majority local council collections.

Batteries

Unfortunately, dispatching batteries is one exception when we cannot be as green as we would like, this is due to us having to follow the rules and regulations that are set by both the International Air Transport Association (IATA) and our courier provider.

For individual loose batteries, we are required to ensure that they are bubble wrapped in order to ensure that no damage can be done to the battery. This means an extra layer of bubble wrap has to be used for any battery in orders.

For batteries that are contained within items or packed with other items, we are required to ensure that the batteries are safe and secure, if not we have to add extra protection to the packaging in order to ensure no damage is done to the batteries.

While the bubble wrap is, unfortunately, not recyclable in all areas, we do encourage our customers to check if your council accepts bubble wrap in their recycling collections, if not it is accepted at recycling bins usually found outside your local supermarkets which will also accept items such as plastic carrier bags.

Electronics

Why Recycle?

Unwanted electrical equipment is the UK’s fastest growing type of waste. Many electrical items can be repaired or recycled, saving natural resources and the environment. If you do not recycle, electrical equipment will end up in landfill where hazardous substances will leak out and cause soil and water contamination – harming wildlife and human health.

Crossed out wheeled-bin symbol

To remind you that old electrical equipment can be recycled, it is now marked with a crossed-out wheeled bin symbol. Please do not throw any electrical equipment (including those marked with the crossed out wheeled bin symbol) in your bin.

Recycling WEEE products

All non-business customers can return like for like end user products to be responsibly recycled by us. This can be done via post or by dropping the items off at our warehouse. Please note you will need to contact us and book an appointment to drop off any items.
