The Singapore University of Technology and Design has created a drone that separates into a number of smaller microdrones mid-flight. The design of the microdrone was inspired by "helicopter seeds" that can be found on various trees, the microdrones fly in a similar way to how these seed pods travel. The drones have an angled flap which causes them to rotate while falling. While the drone doesn't have an application currently they hope the design can be expanded on to create a single-use drone that is able to deliver supplies/resources to a number of different site in close proximity.
