DESCRIPTION

This 4m length comes with 60 LEDs per meter and can be easily cut, or can be 'daisy chained' with other strips in order to produce long chains of LEDs.

Each LED on the strip is the same size as the 5050, and has an embedded microcontroller inside it which controls brightness levels, and interprets the data you send it. Each strip needs two wires to control all LEDs, one clock and one data. This arrangement makes it easier to use with slower devices like the Arduino Uno.

The power supply to the strip is 5V. It's wise to consider that each LED can consume around 60mA at full brightness - multiply that by 60 (per metre) and you have over 3.5A, or about 18W of power dissipation. We recommend a relatively meaty power supply, with connections every 2 to 3 metres on a long run strip.

Each LED pixel uses about 20mA - multiply that by 60 (per metre) and the strip length and you have over 3.5A, or about 18W of power dissipation. We recommend a relatively meaty power supply, with connections every 2 to 3 metres on a long run strip.

Each strip is mounted inside a plastic weatherproof sleeve. This can be easily removed with a sharp knife if need be. At the ends of the strips are male/female 4-pin JST-SH plugs which allow multiple strips to be connected. The power lines are broken out onto separate wires for easy access.

Please Note:

  • This item is sometimes sold under the name 'Dotstar' - but this is just a name. Our APA102 strips come from the same factory and are exactly equivalent
