B.E.R.D is a robotic dog designed by YouTuber James Bruton (XRobots) and manufactured by us here at Cool Components. It's designed to give makers the opportunity to build and control their own robot with a unique movement system.

James is well known for the movement systems in his builds which often use servos or motors and B.E.R.D is no different, it features six individually controlled servos. These are used to control the four legs and two central servos which control the sliding central chassis which allows the dog to walk and turn.

The top mounting piece in the kit includes mounting holes for the included Protoboard as well as the ElecFreaks Motor:bit and Kitronik Compact 16 Servo Driver Board (sold separately.) What controller you use is up to you!

To make it easier getting started we've created links to our digital programming instructions for both the BBC micro:bit and Arduino platforms. The setup below is using a Teensy 3.2 and a 5V power supply.

Please Note: This kit does not include a control board or microcontroller (BBC micro:bit/Arduino). The top mount includes mounting holes for the ElecFreaks Motor:bit and Kitronik Compact 16 Servo Driver Board.

Assembly can be challenging at times so we'd suggest adult supervision. The programming involved is fairly simple but some experience with the control platform you decide to use would be useful.
